Alfred (Bill) J. Elmy was a 1941 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam NY. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and on January 2, 1943, left for basic training in Florida. Alfred served in Alaska in the 373rd Air Service Squadron for one year. He was an Aircraft Ordinance and Ammunition Specialist. Alfred received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After an Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sergeant, Alfred returned to Amsterdam. He co-owned Amsterdam Dry Cleaners, then worked and retired from General Electric. Alfred married Grace Constantino and had two children.
